If you were to die today, have you come to the place in your spiritual life that you know for certain where you would go, or is that something you’re still working on?
Suppose you were to stand before God, and He said “Why should I let you into my heaven?” Do you know what your response would be or would you say that’s something you’re still working on?
Those are tough questions we know, but they are perhaps the most important questions that you will ever have to answer. If you’re reading this, you have come to the most important page of our website, for the Bible tells us that it is possible to know for sure what will happen to us when we die, and we want you to know as well.
The first thing we must realize is that eternal life is an absolutely free gift. There is nothing you or I can do to earn it or deserve it. Ephesians 2:8, 9 says “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” And again Romans 6:23 says “But the gift of God is eternal life.”
And the fact that eternal life is a gift, unearned or undeserved, makes sense when we see what the Bible has to say about man. Romans 3:10 tells us “There is none righteous, no, not one.” Ezekiel 18:20 says “The soul that sinneth, it shall die.” Man is a sinner, completely unable to save himself. We are born sinners, and as such, we will one day die.
Because God is a just God and must punish our sin, if we die as sinners, we will go to a place called Hell. The Bible describes this place by saying “Where their worm dieth not, and their fire is not quenched” (Mark 9:44). This will be a place of “darkness” where there will be “weeping and gnashing of teeth” (Matthew 22:13).
However, God is also a God of mercy and wants to pardon our sin. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross to purchase a pardon for us. Second Corinthians 5:21 tells us that “He (God) has made him (Jesus, His Son) to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” Jesus is both man and God, the only acceptable Person that could pay the penalty for our sins. Jesus died on the cross and rose from the grave to pay our sin debt and purchase us eternal life. John 3:16, the most famous verse in the Bible says “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
So how do you receive this free gift? The Bible tells us it’s through faith, placing our dependence on Him for eternal life. This faith isn’t simply head knowledge, for the Bible tells us that “the devils also believe, and tremble” (James 2:19). Nor is it temporary faith, like faith for finances or travelling safety. This faith is placing your faith in God alone as the only way to receive eternal life.
Would you like to receive this free gift? Remember that this is the most important decision you will ever make. Let’s review what this decision entails before you make it. Eternal life is completely free gift, and you and I cannot earn it or ever be good enough to deserve it. That’s because man is a sinner. Because of this he needs a Savior. This Savior is Jesus Christ, the Son of God. He completely paid the price for your sin so that all you would need to do is accept this gift by faith. This faith, you remember, is not merely head knowledge or temporary faith, but a transfer of your trust to God alone as the only way to heaven. This doesn’t mean that you trust in God and your good works, but that you trust in God alone.
If you would like to receive this free gift, here’s what you need to do. You must transfer your trust from what you have been doing to what Jesus did on the cross, accept the living Christ as Savior, and repent, or be willing to turn from anything that is not pleasing to God.
Romans 10:13 tells us that “Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” If you want to receive this gift of eternal life right now, then call on Him, asking for this gift right now. Here’s a sample prayer for you to pray:
“Lord Jesus, thank You for Your gift of eternal life. I kow I’m a sinner and do not deserve eternal life. But You loved me so You died and rose from the grave to purchase a place in Heaven for me. I now trust in You alone for eternal life and repent of my sin. Thank You so much!”
If this prayer was the sincere desire of your heart, congratulations! You have just entered into the family of God, and God says “He that believeth on me hath everlasting life” (John 6:47).
